Difference from the Official Release

xfy Enterprise Solution for DB2 9 (Trial) differs from the official version of xfy Enterprise Solution in the following points:

  • Since there is no server that centrally controls newly created or updated packages (XML applications), functions for distributing, sharing and downloading the packages cannot be used. Therefore, it is required to manually distribute the applications through e-mail, a shared folder or a Web server, and users should download them manually.
  • Schemas and tags cannot be shared since a server that manages them does not exist.A tool that manages schemas and tags on a client PC is offered.
  • A shared bookmark function used among several users is not equipped.Users can make use of bookmarks independently.

What are benefits of using DB2 with xfy technology?

xfy provides an environment to quickly develop XML applications. By combining DB2 and xfy, applications handling XML data accumulated in DB2 can be implemented. The function to develop such applications (XML templates) is called "Database Adapter," which allows easy connection to DB2, using the wizard, without special knowledge about XQuery and SOAP. In addition, applications developed with xfy technology can be easily reused. For example, a user can easily make use of the function for accessing to DB2, which is included in an XML template used in an organization as a best practice, by copying and pasting it into a new XML document. By adding other function components to this document, a special business application can be quickly created. This xfy environment offers the following benefits to the users.

  • It enables the user to connect to the database without knowledge about databases.
  • It enables the user to customize applications according to user requirements, by referring to the examples in which know-how is accumulated.
  • It enables the user to create applications as if the user created a document using a word processor.
  • It enables the user to easily distribute and reuse applications as if the users handled documents within the organization since the substance of these applications is an XML document.
  • It realizes a "dynamic document" which allows the changes in the database to be reflected in the document.
